Just something that came to mind today.

1. Traditionally animated movies dominated theaters

2. Most cartoons on television were well drawn/animated

3. Computer animated movies were limited mainly to Pixar

4. Cheap Flash cartoons didn't exist on television yet

5. Cartoons made on cels can be physically owned and hung on your wall

6. Cel animated cartoons had better coloring that most digital cartoons

7. American cartoons didn't try so hard to look like they were anime

8. People seemed to have a better understanding of how to make cartoons look appealing

9. Music sounded a lot better

10. Animated films had original songs sung by pop musicians rather than pop culture songs everyone's heard before

11. Michael Jackson was still alive

12. Live-action movies were still made with practical techniques and not just CGI

13. Robin Williams was still alive

14. Rick Moranis was still in movies

15. Macaulay Culkin was still that cute child star from Home Alone

16. Classic cartoons were seen more often on television

17. Saturday Morning cartoons were still a thing

18. You could still hear Tony Jay's magnificent voice in cartoons

19. Commercials and network bumpers/IDs were made with more creativity and variety

20. Company logos looked more appealing

21. Disney still cared about hand-drawn animation

22. Disney's feature animation department wasn't a shameless Pixar clone

23. The Disney Afternoon had cartoons that really felt like "Disney animation"

24. The Disney Channel felt like it was really about Disney and not teen idols and sitcoms

25. Disney Adventures magazines were still being published

26. Don Bluth was still making animated films

27. DreamWorks wasn't in the way of 2D studios and only had one CGI film

28. Steven Spielberg produced great cartoons for Warner Bros.

29. Other classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons got more recognition/attention besides Scooby-Doo

30. People associated Alvin and the Chipmunks with the cartoon and not the live-action movies

31. The Simpsons were still in their prime

32. Seth MacFarlane wasn't a popular cartoonist yet

33. Adult Swim didn't exist on Cartoon Network

34. Cartoon Network didn't show live-action programming

35. Nickelodeon still made game shows

36. Nickelodeon put more emphasis on slime

37. Nicktoons were all original and not based on DreamWorks movies

38. Nickelodeon Magazine was still being published

39. Sega was still in the console business

40. Nintendo Power magazines were still being published

41. DC and Marvel had tons of comic book crossovers

45. Fast food restaurants gave out cooler stuff

46. Hi-C still made Ecto Cooler

47. The internet couldn't spoil new movies with leaked info

48. Movies/cartoons weren't based on whether the Nostalgic Critic liked them or not

49. People couldn't just do cheap animations in Flash for the internet and call it a cartoon

50. 9/11 didn't happen yet

5 reasons why today is better than the 90's

1. We have better home computers and better internet service

2. DVD and Blu-Ray are superior home video formats to VHS and LaserDisc

3. Each new generation of video games is more advanced than the last

4. High-Definition television sets
